Catch Up

A lot has happened in the past few years! I moved a few times, got engaged and then married (both events with the same lovely person), bought a house, and got a new job at a different library which reduced my commute by 2 hours a day. I joined a Sewing Guild and started sewing, knitting, and crafting more seriously, taking classes, going to conferences, and trying to be making something all the time. Friends have moved (some closer, some farther away) and I've picked up new hobbies (I'm a mediocre pool player now and I am learning to play Magic the Gathering). I'm trying to learn to cook by working my way through America's Test Kitchen's Cooking School book and have discovered that poaching eggs is really irritating and souffles aren't as challenging as I thought.

And that's just the big stuff.

What I haven't been doing is very much reading.

Whether because I was busy or stressed or just having a hard time really getting into a book, I haven't been reading for myself. (I am still reading about books and publishing for work.) I really miss it. I've always thought of myself as a reader, but I don't feel like one right now. I've been in a book slump. I want to change that!

Curtis (that person I married a few years ago) bought me a Kindle for Christmas and already I'm reading more in these first few weeks of January than I have in months. It feels great.

This year, I'm participating in the 2019 POPSUGAR Reading Challenge and I've just finished reading a book for the first challenge. ("Beneath the Sugar Sky" by Seanan McGuire fulfills "Read a Book with 'Pop'. 'Sugar', or 'Challenge' in the Title".)

With this rediscovered motivation, I thought it might also be a good time to dust off this blog. I'll be keeping track of my Reading Challenge progress as well as counting read titles for my annual goal (this year, I want to read at least 70 books).

So, here I am! Back in action! Ready to take 2019 by storm (from the comfort of a reading chair, that is)!
